Process

You must book a slot in order to audition irrespective of whether you are auditioning for a Character or Dancer. (In the case of SALLY and EMCEE, you will need to book two slots.) To book a slot, please complete our audition form. Please remember to submit the form after completing it.

You will receive an email confirmation within 24 hours which will give you the exact time of your audition on the day you requested. Your audition is only confirmed if you receive that email, so please check your spam folder and put our email address in your contacts - admin@vermontrep.com. If you do not receive a confirmation within 24 hours of submitting your form, please contact us at that email address.

Character Auditions

Your audition will be a private session with our Artistic Director and other members of the Production Team. You should prepare material as described below, which will consist of a short scene (side), and a section of song from the show to be performed to a track. The tracks are available for you to download and practice with on your own devices, but we will provide the playback at the audition itself- you do not need to worry about that.

You will work on that material within your audition as directed. Your audition will take approximately 12 minutes and will be at a pre-arranged time, although please allow a little extra as it is not uncommon for us to be running late.

Dance Auditions

Your audition will be a group session with our Choreographer and other members of the Production Team. Your session will include a short warm-up, work on the prepared dance sequence available below and a new section of choreography that will be taught within the audition. The whole process will take no longer than 45 minutes.

Although there will be a short warm-up at the beginning of the session, it will be brief so please feel free to arrive early and warm up as you require.

There is a link to a song here. Dancers will only be asked to sing this song if they are invited to a call back. There is no singing component in the first dance audition.

Call backs

Call backs are by invitation ONLY.

You will receive an EMAIL invitation for a call back by the end of Friday 30. Your call back will be a private session with the Production Team, scheduled at some point on Saturday 31 in which you will work on a section of song from the show with our Musical Director and a rehearsal pianist.

THIS APPLIES TO DANCERS AND CHARACTERS ALIKE.

Characters will sing the same song that they used in their first audition; dancers will sing the song linked in the Dance Audition Material section.

Rehearsals take place during weekday evenings and weekends during the day (and sometimes evenings). If you are not 100% confident that you can make this commitment, please do not audition.

Production

Please prepare ONE side AND the Monologue.

You will be asked to perform the material first and then work on a section of it with our Artistic Director within your audition slot.

A reader will be provided to read the scene with you.

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE SIDES

Notes

Our auditions are designed to be friendly and unintimidating - we focus on the process. We are interested in what you can achieve within the room as you work creatively one-on-one with our director, not on how well you stand and perform a cold read under intense pressure. We understand how nerve-wracking the process of auditioning is and we try hard to enable you to show us what you can do without the anxiety. We receive a lot of positive feedback on our auditions and if you are nervous, we encourage you to reach out with questions to admin@vermontrep.com, and, above-all, to try it out. Whether you are cast in the production or not, we promise it will be a constructive and worthwhile experience.

You must be at least 16 years old to audition, with the exception of the role of John Webster in Shakespeare in Love. For this role, we will be accepting applications from performers aged 13+ with parental consent.
