Process
You must book a slot in order to audition irrespective of whether you are auditioning for a Character or Dancer. (In the case of SALLY and EMCEE, you will need to book two slots.) To book a slot, please complete our audition form. Please remember to submit the form after completing it.
You will receive an email confirmation within 24 hours which will give you the exact time of your audition on the day you requested. Your audition is only confirmed if you receive that email, so please check your spam folder and put our email address in your contacts - admin@vermontrep.com. If you do not receive a confirmation within 24 hours of submitting your form, please contact us at that email address.
Character Auditions
Your audition will be a private session with our Artistic Director and other members of the Production Team. You should prepare material as described below, which will consist of a short scene (side), and a section of song from the show to be performed to a piano track which is available to download.
You will work on that material within your audition as directed. You will sing to the same backing track that is provided within the audition materials (the one without the guide vocal) and we will provide playback. We will also provide a scene partner for the side you have prepared if there is a need for a second character.
Your audition will take approximately 12 minutes and will be at a pre-arranged time, although please allow a little extra as it is not uncommon for us to be running late.

Dance Auditions
Your audition will be a group session with our Choreographer and other members of the Production Team. Your session will include a short warm-up, work on the prepared dance sequence available below as well as a new section of choreography that will be taught within the audition. The whole process will take no longer than 45 minutes.
Although there will be a short warm-up at the beginning of the session, it will be brief so please feel free to arrive early and warm up as you require.
Kit Kat Club dancers are required to sing and you will notice there is a song and backing track available in the downloadable resources. However, please note that the singing component of the audition will take place only during the call backs. YOU WILL SING THE SONG ONLY IF YOU ARE INVITED FOR A CALL BACK. There is no singing component in the first dance audition, but there is a short time window between auditions and call backs and it may be worth taking a look at the song regardless.

Call backs
Call backs are by invitation ONLY.
You will receive an EMAIL invitation for a call back by the end of Friday 30. Your call back will be a private session with the Production Team, scheduled at some point on Saturday 31 in which you will work on a section of song from the show with our Musical Director and a rehearsal pianist.
THIS APPLIES TO EVERYONE - DANCERS AND CHARACTERS.
Characters will sing the same song that they used in their first audition; dancers will sing the song linked in the Dance Audition Material section.

Conflicts
You need to fill in the “Conflicts” section of the audition form before you audition and we would like to draw your specific attention to this section.
Our rehearsal schedule will be made on the basis of the conflicts you declare at this time and it will not be changeable later. You will not be called on any date you declare as a conflict, but you will be required to attend every rehearsal you are called for on any other day. The full schedule will be made available to you prior to the read-through. (Please read the For Performers section of our website for more information on this subject.)
Please take care when filling out this section to declare every day when you will be unable to rehearse - from 5.30pm on weekday evenings, and all day on weekends.
Notes
Our auditions are designed to be friendly and unintimidating - we focus on the process. We are interested in what you can achieve within the room as you work creatively one-on-one with our creative team, not on how well you perform a single cold read under pressure. We understand how nerve-wracking the process of auditioning is and we try hard to enable you to show us what you can do without the anxiety. We receive a lot of positive feedback on our auditions and if you are nervous, we encourage you to reach out with questions to admin@vermontrep.com, and, above-all, to try it out. Whether you are cast in the production or not, we promise it will be a constructive and worthwhile experience.
Finally, please be aware that Cabaret is an adult show, inherently provocative in its nature, and we do not intend to tone it down. It contains subject matter related to abortion, fascism and racism in some of its most extreme forms, as well as extremely offensive iconography. On top of that, the choreography and costumes are highly suggestive and sexual in their nature. If this is not for you, please do not audition.
You must be at least 18 years old to audition for Cabaret.
