Are you interested in directing a One Act in 2026?
Are you someone who has always wanted to direct but never found the opportunity?
Are you a seasoned director who has been out of the trenches for a while and looking for an opportunity to blow the dust off?
Are you someone who has always wondered what it would be like to direct a show, but didn’t want to start off on something big?
The Williston One Acts might be exactly what you’re looking for…
The 2026 Williston One Act Festival will be in mid-October, 2026 at The Rep in Williston, the home of Vermont Repertory Theatre. It will consist of 6 one act plays, with 6 directors and 6 casts, playing over a two week period.
Vermont Rep provides the “black box” space, including provision of lighting and sound, (shared between all the plays). It also takes care of the royalties, provides rehearsal space and all the marketing ticketing and box office provision. Each director deals with finding their play, their cast, and sourcing the required props, costumes and scenic pieces, for which Vermont Rep gives each show a budget of $500.
Vermont Rep does not provide Costume, Scenic or Props designers to support the individual shows, but we do have a list of people interested getting involved in these departments and we try to link up directors with some of those folks who have appropriate technical and creative skills or interest as required.
It’s a lot of fun and a lot of creativity in a very supportive and low-stakes environment.

Directing
We will be inviting submissions for directors before January 31, 2026.
If you are interested in throwing your hat in the ring, please send an email to Chloe at admin@vermontrep.com, including the following:
a brief summary of your previous theatrical experience
the reasons you want to direct a one act with us
any thoughts you have on what you might want to direct (if any)
Mostly, we’re interested in understanding who you are and why you want to get involved - you do not have to have any directing experience at all to do this. In fact, creating an opportunity for people to gain their first experience is part of the idea.
Technical
If you are not interested in directing, but you would like to be involved in a different capacity, please write and let us know. Again, prior experience is not a pre-requisite, just let us know what you are interested in. We have opportunities in the following areas:
Set design and construction
Props
Costumes
Stage Management
Front of House (tickets, ushering and concessions)
Performing
While we don’t “audition” for participation in the One Acts, we do keep a list of interested performers and we share that with our directors as they are looking to cast their shows. Please just write in, expressing an interest with a headshot and resume if you have one. If not, just a brief summary of your theatrical experience and a recent picture will suffice.
